Dance, Children Dance
Words & music by Neil Pike ©2016
Well the wind blew in like a circle of sin
Swept us all before it
You can close your eyes or you can argue why
but you know you can’t ignore it
The rain came down with a terrible sound
Washed us all away
And some of us tried, most of us cried
But there’s just one thing to say…
CHORUS:
Dance children dance
See how it feels when ya kick up your heels and
Dance, children dance
There is no point in crying
Dance, children dance
Take it back to the start with a song in your heart and
Dance, children dance
But don’t you ever stop trying
Hey, in for a penny, in for a pound
It’s time to bring the curtain down
We burnt the village to save the town
That’s what they always say.
Life is a bitch so eat the rich
‘cause they’ll leave you lying in a ditch
With a stomach full of nothing & a nasty twitch
As they drag their gold away…
CHORUS:
Dance children dance
See how it feels when ya kick up your heels and
Dance, children dance
There is no point in crying
Dance, children dance
Take it back to the start with a song in your heart and
Dance, children dance
And don’t you ever stop trying
And the bankers grew fat as we grew thin
& the food in your belly is the measure of everything
Time to pull our leaders in, it seems we’ve reached the end
The truth of the matter is they don’t give a damn
And ya may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb
So keep your eyes open and do what ya can
And share it round again
CHORUS:
Dance children dance
See how it feels when ya kick up your heels and
Dance, children dance
There is no point in crying
Dance, children dance
Take it back to the start with a song in your heart and
Dance, children dance
And don’t you ever stop trying
repeat CHORUS.

The Pipe Song
Words & Music by Neil Pike ©1997
This is the wattle, the symbol of our scene.
You can smoke it in a bottle or eat with harmaline...
Walk on water, walk on light,
Welcome to the edge of sight or might have beens.
Cresting on a wave of fate,
Eternity served on a plate of in-betweens.
Most of what you see's perception,
All the rest is largely self-deception.
Dust within or light without
and
Sometimes only dreams can make you shout.
Woke up and I was feeling free
So I reached for a branch on the wattle tree and it was not too bad.
Kaleidoscopic forest crown,
Jewelled web upon the ground, I'm feeling glad.
Most of what you see's reflection,
All the rest is largely self-deception.
And all the truth you need to see
Is written in the bark of every growing tree.
Na-nah na-na-nah-nah na na-nah na-nah na-nah etc...
And all you feel and all you see,
All you think might set you free is a looking glass.
Beyond all sense of time and space,
Reality is a fractured grace and a twirling path.
Can't you see that light's reflective?
Most of what you know is quite subjective.
And everywhere you go you choose
And what you think is certain you'll most surely lose.
Na-nah na-na-nah-nah na na-nah na-nah na-nah etc...
Woke up and I was feeling free,
So I reached for a branch on the wattle tree and it was wonderful.

A Peacock's Tale

Peacock Song
Words & music by Neil Pike ©1979
Oh the peacock sings
on clouds the colour of Krishna
To the rustle of velvet wings
Sweet is their flight
From the golden sands of morning
To the mountains of the night.
Light ray, pots of clay
One by one
My dreams all fade away
The peacock is a spirit of rare beauty
Trapped in mortal wings & feathered hue
When the dance of love has burnt to its fulfillment
The peacock sheds a tear of crystal blue
Bird of joy, fly above
Free of all illusion weeps in love
Froze in time, we dance alone
And claim the peacock’s beauty
As our own.
Light ray, pots of clay
One by one
My dreams all fade away
The peacock is a spirit of rare beauty
Trapped in mortal wings & feathered hue
When the dance of love has burnt to its fulfillment
The peacock sheds a tear of crystal blue

White cloud, yellow flower & green moss hill
Grey day away beyond the trees.
Angel sky don’t fear the mirrors in your eye
You, I thought would still be free.
In child-like fright await the coming of the night
Candle light silver bright finger-nail moon.
Perched in grace, I see the echo in your face
Wake up to a golden place
I hope your spirit hears this tune.
Cold white star, night-sky hollow near & far
Reflections of your magick linger on
Fade away, we’ll be back another day
The ripple of your beauty fills this song.
Under the wings of a tall bent tree,
The last of the small folk sang to me
Fly away…

Funeral March

Funeral March
Words & Music by Neil Pike ©1978 & 2016
This world is broken, our rulers all have spoken
The Raven cries & truth flies away
There’s a phone in every pocket and no facebook app to block it
There’s a howling mob with pitchforks come to play
The planet will carry on but you & I will soon be gone.
‘cause every empire crumbles and Rome wasn’t burnt in a day.
And here’s to our children’s children’s lives
Some of them might manage to survive
Teach them how to love & share, tread lightly…
and they might just find a way.

All Aboard
Words & Music by Neil Pike ©2014
All aboard, the captain said.
If you don't know where you're going to, you'll soon enough be led
From the first day that we're born, we're all waiting to be dead
So just enjoy what's in between it.
All of our hunger we carry in our eyes
Most of the rest’s a serpent's nest we bury in lies
And sometimes we remember our infinite size
But mostly we just think we dream it.
So…
Chorus:
Cry like a martyr or laugh like a fool
Cling to every lesson you learnt in school
Truth is quite subjective but the rich men make the rules.
It really is that simple and stark.
And you tell me I'm too negative, you say it's all quite fine
Doing nothing's better than wasting time.
But hope is still a virtue at the end of the line.
Or else it’s all just whispers in the dark
Listen to your heart.
Time & motion on the empire's wall
It sounds just like an echo in an empty hall
We could rise to the occasion or reach the edge & fall
But you better make your mind up soon.
And you & I are just the moments we all share
The love that lies between us & the sorrow we all bear
And all your best intentions are particles of air
' cause only actions change the tune.
Still you…
Chorus:
Cry like a martyr or laugh like a fool
Cling to every lesson you learnt in school
Truth is quite subjective and the rich men make the rules.
It really is that simple and stark.
And you say that I’m too negative, you say it's all quite fine
‘cause doing nothing's better than wasting time.
But hope is still a virtue at the end of the line.
Or else it’s all just whispers in the dark
Listen to your heart.

Hats Off To Hofmann
Words & Music by Neil Pike ©1997
The Angel, the Ox and the Eagle & Snake
Were down at the crossroads dividing the cake
And you can’t criticise what you helped to create
When it all comes true.
Sometimes it seems I’m inclined to the notion
All that belongs here is Earth, Air & Ocean
Forest, fresh water and most of the animals too
Except perhaps for me & you.
Chorus:
How much of this even really exists?
It’s an ocean of wonder, a mountain of bliss.
Most of the time, it’s a circular line we draw.
And we still come back for more.
I don’t know how I would, I don’t know if I could
Even start to remember it.
Once in a while when the wind starts to smile & then
Well it all comes back again.
I came to a lake that was covered with fire.
Christened by love I was burnt by desire.
All I could feel was a hunger that seemed quite real.
I reached for the moon & the stars seemed to shatter
All that I knew was it doesn’t much matter
My hooves were a’tapping, My wings were a’flapping
And the sky fell down.
Chorus:
How much of this even really exists?
It’s an ocean of wonder, a mountain of bliss.
Most of the time, it’s a circular line we draw.
And we still come back for more.
I don’t know how I would, I don’t know if I could
Even start to remember it.
Once in a while when the wind starts to smile & then
Well it all comes back again
Well I dreamed of a world that was green again…

What You See (Is What You Get)
Words & Music by Neil Pike ©1998
The sun will one day disappear
All the rest remains unclear
Just shadows on the wall.
A second grace, a brand new face
A momentary glimpse of coloured space
Understanding as you fall.
Concrete grief, keep it brief
Understanding sweet relief
Thank you very well
And all you touch, all you know
Is mostly just a shadow show
Of wishing wells & private hells,
Listen to your heart, Listen to your heart
Sunflower fields, green apples hanging from a tree.
Haystack, lightning & an orange moon I see
The fruit’s not ripe but still it seems like it’s quite good to me,
Hanging round the madness of the gypsy quarter
Tripping on the sadness of my spiritual daughter
All the rest got led away like lambs unto the slaughter
Chorus:
What you see is what you get
I might be dying but I’m not quite dead yet
I leave this place with no regrets
Throw away my blindfold and my final cigarette.
I woke up laughing with a tear upon my face
Looked around me I was in the right place
The sun up above me and the trees all around.
I kiss the open sky I kiss this sacred ground.
One & one is two unless you know the way to fuse
All the rest is silence & there’s not much there to choose.
Still in all it mostly hurts you when you fall
I see you run from one circle to another
You’re still looking for yourself in the eyes of your lover.
The cracking wall is just another curtain call
Chorus:
What you see is what you get
I might be dying but I’m not quite dead yet
I leave this place with no regrets
Throw away my blindfold and my final cigarette.
I woke up laughing with a tear upon my face
Looked around me I was in a good place
The sun up above me and the trees all around.
I kiss the open sky I kiss this sacred ground.
Repeat Chorus:
What you see is what you get
We’re all dying but we’re not quite dead yet
I leave this world with no regrets
Throw away my blindfold and my final cigarette.
I woke up laughing with a tear upon my face
Looked around me I was in the right place
The sun up above me and the trees all around.
I kiss the open sky I kiss this sacred ground.

Song For A Linnet
Words & Music by Neil Pike ©2014
You were alone
Drunk on sorrow, drunk on holy wine.
I found you crying in the night.
Share it sister, what's yours is mine
Sometimes it hurts
Sometimes it heals just like a touch.
Sometimes it's worse
Sometimes it doesn't do much at all…
I don't know
Why you weep
All I can tell you is to
Keep on being strong.
Life is a journey, it won't take long
And you are a child of beauty
Hungry for light but your only real duty's to smile…
Life hurts
Sometimes it burns you and
Sometimes it turns you around.
Nothing lasts.
So reach for the stars but
Keep your feet on the ground.
Whatever you are going through,
I love you
Whatever you think you must do,
I love you.
From the beginning to the end,
Now and forever I'll always be your friend.
I love you.
